How the work is made

The Workshop
Kenya Weaverbird is an environment friendly workshop located on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. In 1992 I planted over 1000 trees on my property to give me a permanent renewable energy source for dying the yarns.
Dyeing
We designed fuel efficient jiko’s (cookers) to be able to dye 2 dye lots at a time over the minimum amount of firewood. We use Swiss dyes on our wool yarn which has such a low impact on the environment that we use the run off water in the flower garden. We custom mix our colours to suit our designs.
Appliqué
Our items are made with our hand-woven fabrics from hand spun and machine spun yarn. Each item is appliquéd freehand on zig zag sewing machines. Because of this no 2 items are ever identical. All of our items are hand washable in cold water with natural soap.
Weaving
When you buy one of our products you are buying a unique work of art.
